Yeonmisa Temple was originally founded during the reign of Queen Seondeok, the 27th ruler of the Silla Kingdom, in the 7th century. The temple had long fallen into ruin, but about 30 years ago, a new structure was built on the original site, continuing its legacy. Today, a Buddhist nun resides at the temple and tends to the Andong Icheon-dong Rock-carved Buddha, which is designated as Treasure No. 115. A number of legends are associated with this historic temple and statue.
